How it all Started...

Bio

Thank you for checking out my page!  Without your shared love for music, none of this would mean anything.
I grew up in a small town in central NY, with a family that has influenced and molded me into the person and musician I am today.  My two older sisters always were involved with music and still share the same love for music, as all of us Catalina's do.  My parents and my sister's are my best friends, and always will be.
At the age of 7, I started raiding my Mom's cooking bowls, pots and pans to create what I thought was a legit drum set.  My Mom has always been my rock, and has given me unconditional love my whole life.  My Uncle, Jim Catalina helped me get started on the drums, and introduced me to my biggest celebrity drumming influence, Dave Weckl. He has played drums and bass in several bands and still has his chops!  He will always be my biggest drumming influence.  My Uncle Mike has been playing guitar and heading bands before I was even born.  I definitely inherited the same mentality for going big or going home from him.  I have watched both of my uncles in action on stage as musicians, as Fathers/Husbands and will always look up to both of them.  My father has always played music (Vocals, sax, guitar, piano, mandolin, and more...) and is my biggest wingman.  He bought me my first Ibenez acoustic guitar when I was 16.  I've played the guitar as more of a hobby until I decided to refine my playing over the past few years since my early 30's.
I owe credit to my childhood, and still close friend Matthew McIntyre (Writer, bass, guitar, and vocals in Transient Kicks Band in Syracuse, NY).  He has taught me the majority of what I know on guitar to this day, and I will forever be greatful for his friendship and talents he has shared with me.  We played together in Middle School and High school in a Blink-182/ Punk cover band, and again recently in 2015-2019 in a Jam Band called Sprycat.  We hold a lot of incredible memories together, and I look forward to what the future holds.
Musical Influences:
My first CD was Greenday Dookie.  A CD I really wasn't allowed to listen to, but I'm not sure if my parents knew what I was listening to (sorry Mom).  My influences include a variety of artists, such as Tom Petty, Green Day, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Taking Back Sunday, Blink-182, New Found Glory, Rage Against the Machine, The Used, Story of the Year, Yellowcard, and lots of 90's and early 2000's rock bands.  My more recent influences include Machine Gun Kelly, Noah Kahan, Post Malone, Greta Van Fleet, and similar artists.  I currently listen to Scott Dixon's 95X radio station in Syracuse, NY with Marty and Shannon religiously and love the playlists and content they create, and how they continue to refine their content to bring the best rock music in the industry to your car stereo (my opinion).
My family has always ingrained in me to never give up, and that anything is possible with hard work, dedication and perseverance.  So that's what I am doing.  My first album High Tide will be a collection of a few songs that express my journey over the past few years during the most difficult time in my life when music was one of the only things I felt I had left.  I will take you from the start of the darkest days of no hope, to where I am today.  I hope you enjoy it and feel it.  Be kind to everyone.
Spread love, not hate and let's all help each other through this thing called life.

I love you all.
-Rob
